Chao's Garden Mod
A Fabric 1.21.1 port inspired by the classic Sonic-style Chao Garden. Explore a peaceful custom dimension and raise your own Chao companions.
Overview
Chao's Garden Mod adds a brand new Chao Garden dimension along with interactive Chao pets. Travel between dimensions, hatch Chao eggs, and manage your companions through a simple in-game menu.
Features
Custom Dimension – Chao Garden Access the dimension through a sandstone-framed portal built like a Nether portal and lit with fire. Islands generate in a vast ocean with sandy beaches, grassy centers, and small oak trees. Islands are spaced 512 blocks apart with an approximate 40 block radius. No caves or generated structures. Hostile mobs do not spawn. Drowned and other normal spawns are disabled.
Chao Entity
Passive mob with 10 health and moderate movement speed. Can walk, swim, wander, and look at nearby players. Right-click with an empty hand to make a Chao sit. Right-click a sitting Chao to open its menu.
Menu Options
Close Free Roam – Allows the Chao to wander again Name – Set a custom name displayed above the Chao
Blocks and Items
Chao Egg – A placeable block that hatches when a player is nearby. Chao Garden Portal – Used to travel between the Overworld and the Chao Garden.
Portal Mechanics
Build a sandstone frame and light it with fire to enter the Chao Garden. Return portals automatically generate when you first arrive and link back to the original portal location using a deterministic mapping system.
Technical Details
Includes custom blocks, block entities, items, entities, sounds, chunk generator, and a dedicated creative tab. Custom networking handles Chao menu interactions such as opening the menu, toggling free roam, and setting names. Mixins handle portal creation, portal collision, egg proximity checks, spawn control, and Drowned behavior overrides.
Commands Use /summon chaos_garden_mod:chao to spawn a Chao anywhere.
